Ajax vs VVV Predictions

Ajax were left stunned last weekend after Sunday’s 6-2 defeat at the hands of Feyenoord, and will need to bounce back with a win on Saturday to appease the locals. VVV provide the opposition at the Johan Cruijff Arena, where, if their season so far is anything to go by, they will cause Ajax a few problems. Both teams head into the game on the back of disappointing defeats and it will be interesting to see which side responds with an improved performance on Saturday.

Ajax took the lead against Feyenoord through Schöne in the eighth minute, but found themselves 2-1 down in the thirty-first minute. Ziyech managed to pull the visitors back onto level terms in the thirty-third minute, but Feyenoord lead at the break 3-2 after a strike from veteran forward van Persie. The second half belonged to the hosts though, as van Persie, Vilhena, and Ayoub all scored to wrap up a famous 6-2 win for the Rotterdam club. Ajax actually ended the game with 55% of the overall possession, but poor defending by the visitors, coupled with some excellent attacking moves from the hosts proved enough for Feyenoord to run out convincing winners.

Just the five goals were on show when VVV entertained Emmen, but it was a similar story for the hosts who took the lead through Opoku and still lost the game. Bannink scored to ensure the teams went in level at the break and Emmen took the lead shortly after the hour mark through Arias. Opoku brought VVV back onto level terms, but the visitors pinched all three points deep into stoppage time thanks to a goal from Chacón. VVV had more of the overall possession and created more scoring opportunities than their guests, but were punished for not making the most of their chances.

Its not just those two results that lead us to believe that Saturday’s game is going to produce plenty of goals, there is also the recent history between Ajax and VVV as well. Ajax are unbeaten in their last twenty matches against VVV and the last six games have all produced wins for Ajax. Last season Ajax hammered VVV 4-1 and we’re expecting a similar outcome this weekend as five of the hosts and three of VVV’s last six matches have produced over 2.5 goals. Ajax need to respond after a heavy defeat which allowed PSV to move three more points clear at the top of the table, and we believe they will on Saturday.

Tadić top scores with twelve Eredivisie goals for Ajax this season, but teammate Ziyech has eleven, and Huntelaar has chipped in with nine. Mlapa leads the way in front of goal for the visitors with seven league goals, but Joosten and Sušić have both chipped in with five apiece. We’re confident that Ajax will win and that over 3.5 goals will be scored in the process, with the final scoreline ending 3-1. The hosts have a fantastic record against their guests, winning each of the last six encounters, and their fans will demand a response following that shock 6-2 defeat against rivals Feyenoord.
