Aldershot vs Ebbsfleet United Predictions
The long hard slog of the National League season may be over with, but for a select few sides the work is far from complete as they get the honour of competing in the end of season play-offs. This season the three divisions of the National League are employing a new format and instead of being a straight up semi final and final, they have been extended, to include an additional two sides. That change sees the sides who finished the regular campaign in fourth take on the side who finished in seventh.
Before that fixture, however, we see the two sides who finished in fifth and sixth respectively as Aldershot Town play host to Ebbsfleet United. Unlike the normal play-offs, this stage of the competition is decided on the night and with it all on the line, we think that neither side will be wanting to make the error which costs them their chance of a spot in the Football League, so backing against both teams scoring looks to be the way to go.
A look at the previous two meetings these sides have had this season reveals a lot about what we should expect this Wednesday evening. A tight 0-0 draw was the outcome when they faced off back in January and way back at the start of the season it was Aldershot who claimed a routine 2-0 win.
Truth be told, it is an intriguing contest as the visitors are undoubtedly the form team heading into the knockout stages. Ebbsfleet have managed to win five of their last eight contests but as they are without a win in their previous 12 meetings with the hosts, the final outcome is far from a foregone conclusion.
However, that head to head record is one which is hard to ignore and we think with the added bonus of home advantage, Aldershot should have enough in the bag to progress to the next stage. If they are to achieve this aim then one man who will surely play a key role is striker Scott Rendell. The 31-year-old has 12 goals this season and with three in his last three outings, he looks a good bet to score again on Wednesday evening.
