Algeria vs Colombia Predictions
African champions Algeria return to competitive action next month, but can they warm-up for that with a victory? They come into this week’s clash with Colombia following back to back draws, with the hosts looking to extend their recent unbeaten run. However, they are going up against a quality Colombia side, with the visitors looking incredibly tough to break down.
Algeria head into this clash following a 1-1 draw with Congo on Thursday. Next month marks the start of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, so they are putting their crown on the line with Morocco their tough opener in the fight to make the next tournament. They will be expected to return after going all the way in Cameroon this summer, with their impressive defensive resolve helping them secure glory.
Meanwhile, Colombia were narrowly beaten in the quarter-finals of the Copa America last summer. They looked like dark horses for glory in Brazil, while the co-hosts of the 2020 tournament will be aiming to impress on home soil. However, they haven’t picked up a win since the group stage of the last Copa America, with back to back 0-0 draws ahead of this encounter in Lille.
Based on Colombia’s recent form, there won’t be much for the fans to enjoy in Lille. The pair are coming into this one with sturdy defensive records backing them up. Algeria kept five clean sheets on their way to claiming Africa Cup of Nations glory, while Colombia have a clean sheet in eight of their last nine matches.
These two sides are both in great shape at the back, while the absence of Duvan Zapata really takes away from the Colombia forward line. We think both attacks will struggle for chances here as this is a clash which should see the defences coming out on top. Given that, we are backing under 2.5 goals as our prediction for this clash.
On top of a low scoring game, we can see this one finishing without any goals at all. Colombia have drawn 0-0 in three of their last four games, while Algeria’s run of clean sheets makes a repeat seem quite likely. With that in mind, a 0-0 draw is our correct score prediction for this clash on Tuesday.
