Alloa and Saints seek first points

Alloa and St Johnstone meet in the League Cup on Saturday and both teams are still seeking their first points in this competition.

The hosts lost their opener as they threw away a 1-0 lead against League One rivals Stirling Albion.

Saints suffered a shock loss to League Two outfit Stenhousemuir, and the Premiership side will be looking to get off the mark when they make the trip to Recreation Park.

Saints can bounce back

Saints finished last season reasonably strongly with a three-game unbeaten run and they also managed to avoid defeat in two pre-season games before that surprise loss at Stenny.

Alloa, in contrast, lost four of their final five home games last term and were also beaten three times in their final four pre-season fixtures before that defeat to Stirling.

St Johnstone ply their trade two divisions above their hosts and can get their first win of the season as they look to respond to that defeat to Stenhousemuir.

Alloa have only failed to score in one of their last five home games and they hit 31 in 18 home fixtures in League One last term. As such, the hosts should at least be able to get on the scoresheet and a 2-1 victory for St Johnstone appeals.
