Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in two of Antwerp’s last three matches and three of Anderlecht’s last four contests. Also, the last five meetings of these clubs have finished with fewer than goals registered.

Anderlecht 1-0

Reason for tip

Anderlecht have failed to win any of their last four away games, but Antwerp are in gotten home form with four straight defeats, so the visitors could sneak a win by a one-goal margin. Given they have not scored more than once in any of their last four aways that looks like being a 1-0 result.

Antwerp vs Anderlecht Predictions

  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in two of Antwerp’s last three matches
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in three of Anderlecht’s last four contests
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in the last five meetings of these clubs

Anderlecht have to win to move up from third

Anderlecht enter the final Sunday of the season with remote prospects of the title and half a chance of snatching second place, but they will almost certainly have to win away at slumping Antwerp to achieve either goal.

Club Brugge are in pole position, three points ahead of both Union and Anderlecht, and the fact that Les Maeves had their regular season points rounded up means they will finish below the other Brussels outfit in the event the teams finish level.

It sounds complicated, but the crux of the matter is that Anderlecht have to better Union’s result on Sunday to move up into a Champions League group stage or qualifying round position, so they should be well up for the battle against the Great Old.

Goals rationed when these two meet

Clashes between these two clubs have tended to be low-scoring affairs with each of the last five featuring fewer than three goals, including two goalless draws.

And with three of Anderlecht’s last four league contests and two of Antwerp’s last three also going under 2.5 goals that looks like a solid play for this matchup.

Antwerp cannot qualify for Europe in any form so their only role here is a spoiler, but they will be roared on by their fans if they can upset the ambitions of Anderlecht, whose coach is suspended from the bench for this one.  A run of four consecutive defeats suggests the hosts probably cannot hold Anderlecht back and a 1-0 away win looks the best correct score bet.
