Villans can edge out Dutch giants

Aston Villa have had a difficult time of things as of late but have found a lot of joy in Europe and could get the better of Dutch powerhouses Ajax at Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s men have struggled for consistency in recent weeks – particularly at Villa Park where they have lost four of their last five – but their exploits in the group stages suggest that they could rise to the occasion, after victories over Zrinjski, AZ Alkmaar and Legia Warsaw in Group E.

Ajax meanwhile had a shocking start to their season, winning just two of their opening 13 games in all competitions, but an upturn in form has seen them rise to fifth in the Eredivisie. However, John Van’t Schip’s men dropped into the Europa Conference League after finishing third in their Europa League group, behind Marseille and Brighton.

After failing to claim the advantage in the home leg, the Dutch outfit may struggle to gain the momentum required to qualify at Villa Park – where the Villans have lost just five times all season – and the hosts should be able to claim victory, with a close 1-0 victory drawing the most appeal
