Athletic Bilbao vs Deportivo La Coruna Predictions

It has been a mixed season overall for Athletic Bilbao and their struggles on their travels may prevent them from getting into top four contention but at San Mames they remain strong and should have too much for Deportivo La Coruna here, although they rarely keep clean sheets.

Athletic have won 64% of their home matches in La Liga this term for a healthy average of 2.18 points per game on their own patch. Only Sevilla and Real Madrid have claimed more points at home than them so up against bottom half opposition, you’d certainly back them to get the job done. Their home record in all competitions is even more impressive. Including cup games they are now unbeaten in 15 outings at San Mames, winning 12 of them.

Depor’s struggles on the road also strongly points towards a home win being the most likely outcome here. They average a very poor 0.45 points per game away from home and are yet to win on the road this season. Only two sides in La Liga have a worse away record than them. They’ve had a fortnight break after their game last weekend was postponed but haven’t won any of their six matches so far in 2017 and were beaten 3-1 at Eibar last time out.

Backing Athletic to win outright doesn’t offer great value though and the potential returns shoot up when you add a ‘Both Teams to Score’ leg in. Both teams have netted in a huge 73% of Athletic’s home games so there is strong reason to do that. Likewise 64% of Depor’s away games have produced goals at both ends. Of Athletic’s last 9 home wins in La Liga, both teams have scored in 8 of them and given those stats backing Athletic to Win & Both Teams to Score at 11/4 looks to offer fantastic value here.

If there is to be a goal in this for the visitors, Florin Andone is surely the man most likely to score it. The Romanian has scored 7 goals in his last 10 appearances and you can back Andone to score anytime at 11/4 here which also seems like great value.
