Augsburg vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions
- Borussia Dortmund can go second in the Bundesliga with a win at 15th-placed Augsburg
- Dortmund have won three of their last four away games, failing only to Bayern Munich in that spell
- Augsburg have lost their last two home games, 1-0 to Bochum and 6-0 to RB Leipzig
Dortmund’s title tilt set to roll on in Augsburg
Borussia Dortmund can steal a march on their rivals at the top when they travel to Augsburg to collect what should be a straightforward three points on Friday.
Niko Kovac’s side overcame Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties after a midweek 1-1 DFB-Pokal draw, following on from their 1-0 home Bundesliga win over Cologne last weekend.
Dortmund have won four of their last six away games in the Bundesliga and are unbeaten in three straight meetings with bottom-six sides this season, only dropping points in a 3-3 draw at St Pauli in August. Their pressing game and set-piece threat should prove too much for an Augsburg side that’s yet to beat a top-six team this term.
Augsburg’s defensive woes continue
Augsburg, by contrast, are in freefall. They’ve lost five of their last six Bundesliga matches and conceded 20 goals in just eight league outings — an average of 2.5 per game.
Their last two home games ended in heavy defeats: 0-6 to RB Leipzig and 0-1 to Bochum, and they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six at the WWK Arena.
Despite tactical tweaks from Sandro Wagner, Augsburg’s midfield passing accuracy remains low, and they’ve struggled to build from the back under pressure. Against Dortmund’s high-tempo, possession-heavy style — which has produced 40 corners and 72 shots in five games — they could be overwhelmed. Expect Dortmund to dictate the tempo and create chances at will. A 3-0 away win looks well within reach.
