Augsburg vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions

• Dortmund failed to score in just one of their last 55 Bundesliga matches.
• The main selection won in four of Augsburg’s last six matches.

Angst for Augsburg as relegation looms

A run of one win from Augsburg’s last eight league matches (D3, L4) left them in the relegation play-off spot before the weekend’s Bundesliga action, but that is not for the want of trying as just one of the last 12 sides that they have faced could keep them from scoring at least once.

It is clearly not scoring goals that is the problem, but keeping opposition sides out. Augsburg could hardly be trusted if they do manage to score first when you consider the fact that Dortmund avoided defeat in half of their league games when shipping the opener this season (W3, D1, L4).

Desolate Dortmund in need of a confidence boost

Dortmund remained six points off the title pace before this weekend round of Bundesliga games and they will know they must put on a dominant showing here to keep the title race at least mildly interesting. However a poor exit from Europe and the continued absence of Erling Haaland is a cause for concern.

In any case, Dortmund should be wary of this Augsburg side despite their lowly status given that they are one of the few sides to actually defeat Bayern Munich this season, arguably the only stronger side than Dortmund in the division.

Four of the last five host sides in domestic clashes with Dortmund have scored at least twice and I am backing BTTS & over 2.5 total goals for this reason. Dortmund are a strong attacking side but that often leaves them vulnerable to conceding, so I can see this being an entertaining 2-1 away win.
