Australia vs Oman Predictions
- Australia have won their last ten international matches, all in World Cup qualifying.
- Oman have failed to score in three of their last four internationals against teams ranked in the current top 100 by Fifa.
- Australia have conceded just two goals in their last ten games.
Socceroos bound to overwhelm Oman
The Socceroos start a crucial World Cup qualifying double header by facing Oman in Qatar.
Graham Arnold’s side ran out 3-0 winners over China on their last visit to their ‘home’ venue of Doha in September and weren’t inconvenienced at all by the game-time temperature of 41 degrees.
That’s because the stadium they have taken up residence at is cooled to 23-25 degrees by air conditioning, which assists the Aussies’ all-action style – albeit it’s not quite as demanding as under previous boss Ange Postecoglu.
In Aaron Mooy and Tom Rogic, they have an experienced midfield combination that can dominate possession and dictate to their opponents so we would expect Oman to be looking to play on the break.
Samba Al-Khaleej are three points behind Australia after pulling off a shock 1-0 win over Japan in their group opener, courtesy of an 88th minute winner.
Branko Ivanković has turned the Reds into a team that are hard to beat, but they don’t possess enough goal power to stop the Socceroos’ qualifying surge.
Prior to last week’s 7-2 friendly win over Asian minnows Nepal, Oman had scored only 13 goals in ten games since Brankovic took charge – and only one of those came against a team ranked inside Fifa’s top 100.
As long as the Aussies have their shooting boots on, and this is a team that has averaged 3.2 goals per game in qualifying, it should be a dominant win and one which we feel can be achieved with a clean sheet.
