Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions

Real Madrid’s unbeaten start to the season continued on Saturday as a 90th minute Sergio Ramos equaliser earned them a point at the Camp Nou and kept the gap between them and 2nd placed Barcelona at six points.

Now it’s time to turn their attentions towards the Champions League though, where they sit 2nd in the group but knowing that a win at home to Borussia Dortmund will see them finish top of the pile. They are currently two points adrift of the Germans, having drawn 3-3 at Legia Warsaw last month.

This draw in Poland and their draw at Barcelona make it ten wins and two draws from their last 12 outings, and Real Madrid’s competitive unbeaten record extends back to April. They have won 25 of their 33 competitive matches since then, and at home their record gets even better. They have won 16 of their 18 home matches since their last defeat there in February.

Unsurprisingly it’s been Cristiano Ronaldo leading the charge for Real Madrid. The Portuguese star has netted 12 goals in 16 appearances this season and looks by far the best choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions.

Borussia Dortmund managed an impressive 4-1 thrashing of Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday to bounce back from their away defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. They have now won five of their last six games, but poor form earlier in the season means they sit 5th in the Bundesliga.

Away from home they have only managed four wins from their last eight outings as well, losing to Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, and Frankfurt. During this eight match period they have conceded 12 goals, which isn’t good news considering they are facing a Real Madrid side who have scored 18 goals in their last five home games.

With Dortmund only needing a draw to top the group they would be forgiven for setting up defensively. Unfortunately for them they don’t actually seem capable of playing that way. They have only kept one clean sheet on the road this season. Real Madrid have only kept one clean sheet in their ten home games as well, so both teams finding the net seems an inevitability.

On the balance of things I think Real Madrid will come out victorious on Wednesday. They are simply too strong at home and Dortmund haven’t been at their best away from home. Both sides are incredible attacking forces though, so I’m going for a Real Madrid Win and Both Teams to Score at 21/10 alongside a 3-1 correct score predictions at 12/1.
