Auxerre vs SC Bastia Predictions

Beating Auxerre may be beyond Bastia

After Auxerre were humiliated 6-0 by Ligue 2 leaders Toulouse last weekend, we expect them to show a lot more pride against struggling Bastia on Monday evening.

Jean-Marc Furlan’s side were 3-0 down at the break and things were just as bad after the interval when they were soon reduced to ten men. It was an inexcusable display and a side with any intentions of putting in a promotion challenge will be keen to set the record straight at their first opportunity.

Bastia will be a welcome sight in such a situation as the Corsicans have lost all four of their away league contests this season – their first back at this level after five years in the wilderness of the lower leagues. They made a change at the top prior to last month’s home derby with Ajaccio, won under an interim boss, and then drew 0-0 against Grenoble in new coach Régis Brouard’s first game in charge.

Diplomats usually do enough at home

But beating Auxerre at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps may be beyond them at the moment as the Diplomats have lost only one of their last 11 league games on home turf while maximum points have been taken in 13 of their last 23.

We’re backing Auxerre to win this with a bit in hand, as they did when trouncing seventh-placed Niort 4-0 last month.

Furlan’s side have scored at least two goals in three of their six home league games this term and can do so again while keeping a Bastia side without a goal in their last two games out at the other end.
