BATE Borisov vs Vidi Predictions
BATE head into game week 5 in Group L with it all to do, they sit bottom of the group with 6 points from 4 games after picking up 1 win and 3 defeats. If they are going to progress from their group to the knockout stages of the competition then they have to win here against a Vidi side who currently occupy 2nd place in the group.
Vidi head into this fixture in a great position in group L, they sit 2nd in the table after 2 wins and 2 losses. They are 3 points clear of PAOK and BATE in 3rd and 4th respectively and a win here against the Belorussian side would all but secure their progression to the knockout stages of the competition.
As aforementioned BATE have won just one of their 4 Europa League group games, a 2-0 away victory at this week’s opponents Vidi. Since then they were annihilated 4-1 at home to PAOK and have lost 3-1 and 1-0 to Chelsea. The Belorussians have won their domestic league already so all attentions will be placed on this game as they look to prolong their season.
Vidi have been a solid little team here and have done very well in a group many fancied them to struggle in and have given themselves a superb chance of making the last 32. After losing their opening 2 games to BATE and Chelsea the Hungarian outfit have rallied well, beating PAOK home and away 2-0 and 1-0 respectively to give them a great chance of progression.
BATE are an excellent home side domestically, losing just 3 of their last 77 home league games however that dominance has not transferred to the European stage. They have won just 1 of their last 10 Europa League home games and that was 1-0 against a really poor Cologne side who went on to be relegated from the Bundesliga that season.
Vidi have been a mixed bag away from home in the Europa League, they have lost 2 of their last 8 but only won 2 in the same spell. The notable thing is they are making themselves tough to beat, only losing 2-1 at Bordeaux last season and just 1-0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge which shows their resilience and team work ethic.
This game is set up for Vidi to go and do what they do best, make it tough for the opposition. With PAOK travelling to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea they have to feel that a point here would secure their safe passage to the knockout stages. Under 2.5 goals has landed in all 4 of their group games this campaign and we see it landing again here. We expect BATE to find it tricky to break down the Hungary based side and can see this game ending goalless.
