Bayer Leverkusen vs Ingolstadt Predictions
Roger Schmidt’s Leverkusen have struggled for consistency in the Bundesliga this season, but finally had luck on their side in their last minute 1-0 win away to Schalke 04 last weekend. Leverkusen didn’t perform their best over the 85 minutes or so against a 10-man Schalke and are still six points adrift of the UEFA Champions League qualifying places, but should be confident ahead of this match against second from bottom Ingolstadt.
Ingolstadt climbed up off the bottom of the Bundesliga as Maik Walpurgis’ side bounced back after their first defeat under his reigns with a shock 1-0 win at home to the (then) top of the table RB Leipzig. While Ingolstadt have won just once on the road all season, against bottom of the table Darmstadt, the Bavarians are notably improved under Walpurgis’ leadership (W2 D1 L1).
While we fancy Bayer Leverkusen – the bookies’ favourites at 1/2 – to come out on top, we feel that both teams to score at 4/5 has to be the better bet here for the following reasons: Leverkusen have not suffered from a lack of goals despite star striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez’s drought – he’s now eight Bundesliga matches without a goal. However, Leverkusen’s inconsistency has stemmed from their inability to stop leaking goals at the back – both teams have scored in five of Leverkusen’s last six Bundesliga matches. Meanwhile, Ingolstadt’s resurgence has seen them score exactly one goal in each of their last four Bundesliga matches and the Bavarians have been particularly dangerous from set pieces (6 of their 11 goals this season).
Regarding a correct score bet, Ingolstadt have lost 2-1 twice in their last four matches on the road, including once under coach Walpurgis. As such, Bayer Leverkusen to win 2-1 at 7/1 also seems reasonable here.
