Bayer Leverkusen 2-1

Reason for tip

Leverkusen have lost only two of their last 17 UEFA competition group stage/league phase encounters, winning 11, while PSV won only one of five road games in the competition last term.  Die Werkself have prevailed in 14 of their last 16 European matches at home, losing only once, so they could edge this 2-1. That was the score they beat St Pauli by at the weekend.

Bayer Leverkusen vs PSV Predictions

  • Both teams have scored with at least three goals in five of Bayer Leverkusen’s last six matches
  • Both teams scored with at least three goals in four of PSV’s six away Champions League fixtures in 2024-25
  • Leverkusen have lost only two of their last 17 UEFA competition group stage/league phase encounters, winning 11

Both teams to score in lively BayArena battle

Bayer Leverkusen are gathering enough momentum undre new head coach Kasper Hjulmand to edge PSV Eindhoven in what is likely to be a thrilling Champions League clash at BayArena on Wednesday.

Die Werkself were pegged back late by FC Copenhagen in their Champions League opener and have yet to record a clean sheet since their 4-0 Pokal win over Grossaspach in mid-August.

But their attacking output has remained consistent, with Patrick Schick and Alejandro Grimaldo contributing five goals between them in the Bundesliga. They were clinical in dispatching St Pauli 2-1 at the weekend and it woud be no surprise to see them do something similar to PSV.

Bosz’s side are no pushovers on the road

The Dutch champions arrive in Germany nursing wounds from a 3-1 home defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise in their opening league phase game. Peter Bosz’s side are no pushovers on the road, having drawn at Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal in last season’s competition.

Their high-tempo, front-foot style under Bosz should ensure they create chances at the BayArena, especially against a Leverkusen backline that has conceded in every game since Hjulmand took charge.

Given both teams have shown defensive vulnerabilities but are not lacking in creativity or firepower, the BTTS and over 2.5 goals market looks ripe for investment. Both teams have scored with at least three goals in five of Bayer Leverkusen’s last six matches and in four of PSV’s six away Champions League fixtures in 2024-25.
