Bayern Munich vs Barcelona Predictions
- Bayern have drawn three straight league games
- Lewandowski has scored nine times across his last five games
- Barcelona have scored at least three times in their last five games
- The visitors have scored 20 goals across those five matches
Bayern below their best
Bayern Munich aren’t exactly in crisis, but they’re struggling in the Bundesliga – at least to the extent that it’s possible for them to struggle. The German champions have slipped to third in the table after a third successive league draw at the weekend.
That’s opened the door for Barcelona to produce a big result in this visit to the Allianz Arena. The Catalans lost home and away to Bayern in last season’s group stage, but they’ve had a huge overhaul since then. That includes pinching Robert Lewandowski from Bayern, who returns to his old home for the first time this week.
Familiar face to cause problems
Lewandowski hasn’t had to wait long for his return to Bavaria, but he has happy memories of visiting this ground. His last trip to Bayern as an opposition player came in a 3-0 victory with Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
He went on to enjoy even more happy memories at the Allianz after that, as he scored 38 goals in 37 Champions League games at the ground for Bayern. He already has three goals at the Camp Nou in this competition after last week’s hat-trick, while he has scored in five straight games for Barca – hitting nine goals in that run. Back him to cause problems for his former teammates on Tuesday.
Bayern defence looks vulnerable
Bayern drew 2-2 at home to Stuttgart at the weekend and they look short at the back, having conceded in each of their last three in the league. Things are likely to get worse for them in this clash, with Barcelona in impressive scoring form.
The visitors have scored at least three goals in each of their last five competitive matches, hitting 20 goals in that run. They also managed to put three goals past Man City in a friendly in the middle of that streak, while they have won 3-0 and 4-0 in their last two away games.
While facing Bayern is a step up, the visitors have proven attacking talent going up against a shaky Bayern defence. As a result, over 1.5 Barca goals looks good value, while I’m backing them to take a point away from this trip.
