Tip Reasoning

  • Bayern Munich have won by three or more goals in each of their last two meetings with Barcelona.
  • Bayern have beaten a -1 handicap in five of their last seven home wins.
  • Barcelona’s two defeats in the group stages have both been 3-0 losses.

Qualified Bayern won’t go easy on Barca

Bayern Munich have already qualified for the Champions League knockout stages as group winners but Barcelona need a result to avoid dropping down to the Europa League.

Bayern claimed a comfortable 3-0 win at Camp Nou in the reverse fixture and thrashed Baca 8-2 in the quarter-finals of this competition last season. Wednesday’s game will be played behind closed doors in Germany so the Bavarians may lose some of the advantage of playing at home, but given their recent dominance over Barca that may not have a huge impact.

The Catalans giants know a win will guarantee they finish second but they would be eliminated if they fail to win and Benfica beat Dynamo Kiev. If Barcelona were in this position against almost any other team I’d fancy them to win, but Bayern may well see this as an opportunity to make a statement and they aren’t the sort of team to take it easy despite the fact they have nothing to play for in this particular fixture.

Bayern can win with room to spare

Barcelona will feel they need to win this game as Benfica should be expected to beat Dynamo at home. The La Liga club will have to commit men forward, and Bayern are ruthless on the counter. As the German champions have beat the Blaugrana convincingly in their last two meetings they may be able to win by a comfortable margin in this game and a Bayern win with a -1 handicap stands out for our main bet.

Bayern have scored five goals in both of their home games in this competition, beating Dynamo 5-0 and Benfica 5-2. They may not get to five against Barca, but they have beaten a -1 handicap in five of their last seven home wins so can come out on top in style on Wednesday.

Barca’s two defeats in the group stages have both been 3-0 losses and Bayern are averaging exactly three goals per-game over their last six, so a 3-0 win for the hosts is the pick in the correct score market – as Barcelona have failed to score in five of their six defeats in all competitions this term.
