Belgium started Group B as big favourites to win it. They’re now chasing Wales for the group lead and there are signs that Belgium’s “golden generation” (popular dark horse pick at the last World Cup) are fallible. They suffered defeat in a recent trip to Wales and have been held to draws by the same team and Bosnia.
They need three points at home against Bosnia in this match-up. Their squad is relatively strong for this fixture. Thomas Vermaelan returns to the side, though Tottenham’s Moussa Dembele has been forced to withdraw due to injury.
Since drawing two and losing two of their first four games, Bosnia have secured wins over Andorra and Israel to get their qualifying campaign back on track – at least somewhat. This is a good footballing nation with a legitimate shot at finishing in the top three and real pretensions to qualify for the 2016 competition. However, they’ll have to do something in a game against either Belgium or Wales (in addition to beating the group’s minnows) if that is to become a reality.
Three Reasons for Betting Tips
1. Belgian attacking options
Belgium have too many options going forward, too many players with elite level experience and too many players with skill on the ball. Vermaelen’s return will have a significant impact on the team’s defence as well.
2. Home field advantage
Belgium have played much better football on their home turf this season. They were held by Wales, but secured 6-0 and 5-0 thrashing of Andorra and Cyprus respectively. They seem to find an attacking freedom on home soil that doesn’t exist elsewhere.
3. Depth options for Belgium
They can bring on a sub or make a change to their formation, which changes the look and feel of the game altogether. That makes them huge favourites to win this game, even if it turns into a tight or scratchy affair.
