Belgium vs Bosnia Predictions
Belgium’s failure in the European Championships led to the departure of manager Marc Wilmots and a somewhat left field replacement of recently sacked Everton boss Roberto Martinez, with Thierry Henry as his assistant.
Their opening game didn’t go very wel,l as they lost 2-0 at home to Spain, with the team and manager being booed at full time. However, they did manage to get a win when it mattered, with a 3-0 victory at Cyprus in their World Cup qualifying opener, with a brace from Romelu Lukaku being followed by a Yannick Carrasco goal.
In all fairness a trip to Cyprus aren’t the results Belgium will be judged on. With a team as talented as they are they should be vying for silverware, and they failed to do so in France, when they muddled through the group stages before being knocked out by Wales in the quarter finals.
They have drawn one of the easier groups on their road to the World Cup as well. Bosnia-Herzegovina and Greece will be their biggest challenges, but really the Belgians should be winning the group with ease.
Bosnia-Herzegovina are by no means a bad team though. They hammered Estonia 5-0 in their first World Cup qualifier and they finished 3rd in their Euro 2016 qualifiers, ironically below Belgium in the top spot.
Overall Bosnia-Herzegovina have won four, drawn two and lost two of their last six matches in all competitions. Away from home they are unsurprisingly a bit worse where form is regarded, with four wins, one draw, and three defeats from their last eight, although that’s not a particularly bad record either.
Belgium have won eight of their 11 home matches since the World Cup in Brazil though, losing just one and drawing the other two. The last time these sides met in Belgium ended with a 3-1 win for the home side. Belgium have conceded in seven of these 11 home matches though, whilst Bosnia-Herzegovina have scored in eight of their last nine away days. This makes odds of 19/20 for Both Teams to Score look a really good price, so I’m backing that along with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 7/1.
