Promotion-chasing Almeria hit mid-season slump

Almeria may still sit second in the Segunda Division, but a winless run of four league games (five in all competitions) has seen the chasing pack make up ground on Rubi’s men, who lost a crucial top-of-the-table clash to Eibar last time out.

While Almeria retain the division’s best attacking record and its second-strongest defence, they have not entirely convinced on their travels of late either, winning just one of their last five away games excluding an extra-time Copa Del Rey victory. Almeria bested Real Oviedo 2-1 back in August, but Saturday’s tip to North-Western Spain now looks a much more awkward prospect for the promotion contenders.

Oviedo, for their part, have a strong home record, only losing one of their 12 league games on home turf this season, though they have drawn six of 12 at the Estadio Municipal Carlos Tartiere. Oviedo are also unbeaten in their last six home games, winning four and earning impressive draws with Eibar and Las Palmas in the other two.

Oviedo could be worth backing, albeit cautiously

Considering Almeria’s dreadful run of form, which threatens to see them drop out of the automatic promotion picture, the hosts could be worth a punt to extend their own fine run of home form.

Given the strength of Almeria, who remain the league’s best attacking outfit, and have scored more away goals than anyone in the division, it could be worth exercising caution, however, and backing Oviedo on the draw no bet market is our primary tip for this clash.

A 2-1 home win, meanwhile, could provide some value as a correct score punt.
