Blackburn Rovers To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Blackburn have won each of their last four games without conceding, including pre-season while Hartlepool have failed to score in both of their League Two contests in 2022-23. Rovers also beat Hartlepool 1-0 in a friendly game three weeks ago.

Blackburn Rovers 2-0

Reason for tip

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s tactics are turning Rovers into a highly effective unit with their two clean sheets in the Championship so far both very impressive. Hartlepool, meanwhile, are still yet to score in League Two under Paul Hartley and were reliant on their keeper not to concede more than the four they did at Walsall in their last away game.

Blackburn Rovers vs Hartlepool Predictions

  • Blackburn Rovers have won each of their last four games without conceding, including pre-season.
  • Hartlepool have failed to score in both of their League Two contests in 2022-23.
  • Blackburn beat Hartlepool 1-0 in a friendly game three weeks ago.

Pools’ learners in at the deep end at Blackburn

Blackburn have begun life under Jon Dahl Tomasson in the best fashion possible – winning both Championship games with clean sheets and topping the table. Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash with Hartlepool should hold no fears or surprises for them at all given they beat the League Two club 1-0 in pre-season only three weeks ago.

Pools are without a win or a goal two games into manager Paul Hartley’s reign, but Saturday’s 0-0 home draw with AFC Wimbledon was a step in the right direction after the previous weekend’s 4-0 wreckage at Walsall.

Hartley is learning all about his new players while trying to install a new three-man defensive system. A line-up that included eight debutants wasn’t ready at Walsall and it showed in a defeat that could easily have been by six or seven goals, but for the brilliance of keeper Ben Killip.

Rovers’ rearguard has tightened up under Tomasson

They were much tighter at home to the Dons, but still failed to score in a game they largely dominated. So a win to nil for a buzzing Blackburn side with no goals in their conceded column has to be a strong consideration here.

Rovers began the campaign with a 1-0 home win over Queens Park Rangers – a clean sheet that looks a bit better following QPR’s 3-2 home win over Middlesbrough on Saturday. Another one followed away to Swansea – a team that had scored 14 times in their previous nine home games.

It’s clear that Tomasson’s tactics are turning Rovers into a highly effective unit and, even if he promotes players from the bench on Wednesday, they should be trusted to win this contest and most likely with a clean sheet. A 2-0 home win is the preferred correct score play as Pools’ defence will come under plenty of pressure at Ewood Park.
