Blackburn Rovers vs Brighton Predictions

It’s hard not to be impressed with how Brighton have dealt with the season so far, particularly having come so close to promotion last term. They more than perhaps anyone in the division seem capable of getting results even when they aren’t playing well and that is a key ingredient in any team bidding for promotion in this league.

Another good example of that came on Friday as they were scrappy 2-0 winners against 10 man Leeds, with both goals coming from the spot. It extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to 14 games. Up front Glenn Murray has been their main weapon, he’s netted 12 goals in the league already including 6 in his last 6 games. Against a Blackburn side that struggles at the back, he should get chances here and backing Glenn Murray to score first at 4/1 looks to offer value.

One improvement from Brighton this season is that they are winning more games on the road. This time last year, they were invariably drawing their away games but they are defensively looking better now on their travels and that’s contributing to more away wins. The Seagulls have kept clean sheets in a massive 67% of their away games and they’ve won 50% of their Championship matches this season to nil.

Blackburn come into this game outside the relegation zone but only on goal difference. They’ve improved as the season has gone on but Brighton look to be just a bit stronger in virtually every part of the pitch. They’ve been a bit more positive in some of their recent games but up against such strong opposition, they’ll probably look to replicate the approach that guided them to a shock 1-0 win at Newcastle last month.

With Brighton away games averaging just 1.44 goals per game, a tight clash could develop. Rovers haven’t lost a match by more than one goal since the first two weeks of the season so it promises to be a close one but Brighton unquestionably have more quality and the players who could just produce one moment of magic to edge this. Alternatively a mistake at the back could be crucial but you’d have to say it’s more likely to come from a Blackburn defender, given Brighton’s knack for keeping clean sheets.

Therefore, backing Brighton to win 1-0 at 6/1 looks like it could be the best approach here.
