Bochum to Win

Reason for tip

Stuttgart are in a deep crisis at the minute after a run of one win from 11 league games in charge spelled the end of Bruno Labbadia’s time as coach, Bochum can take advantage for a win.

Bochum 2-1

Reason for tip

Bochum haven’t scored a goal from open play during their current unbeaten streak, so any victory may be by a narrow margin.

Bochum vs Stuttgart Predictions

  • Both teams had scored by the break the last time these two met in the Bundesliga.
  • Stuttgart have been on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline four times in the Bundesliga this season.
  • Stuttgart are the only Bundesliga team yet to win an away league game this season.

A battle for survival

A current three-game unbeaten run in Bundesliga action has seen Bochum rise from the depths of the relegation zone into the less precarious position of 14th before a ball was kicked this weekend. Even so, the hosts haven’t scored from open play in their last 637 minutes, that’s almost 11 hours of play!

That run has raised the importance placed on Bochum’s set-piece routines and with four such goals across their last three games, they aren’t without a paddle. In fact, it was a goal from a set play that earned Bochum a stunning victory over European hopefuls Leipzig in their last home game, so rock-bottom Stuttgart should be much easier in theory!

The visitors sacked their manager after losing 3-0 to Union Berlin in the previous round as Bruno Labbadia left as the club’s worst ever coach in terms of Bundesliga points per game (0.55). That run has left them cut adrift of safety and with just eight games to go, time is ticking for the former five-time German champions.

Sticking with the hosts

Sebastian Hoeness came in and began with a bang by taking Stuttgart to the DFB Pokal semi-final, although a narrow 1-0 win away to second-tier opponents hardly inspires confidence in their survival effort.

We’re going for Bochum to win this game and pile further misery upon the visitors. For smaller stakes, we’re completing our selections with a 2-1 home win in the correct score market.
