Bolton vs Crewe Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in four of Bolton’s last five home games.
  • Both teams have scored in four of Crewe’s last five away games.

Crewe revel in underdog role

Bolton Wanderers have slipped into the bottom half of the table on the back of an awful run that has seen them take just one point from their last five league games.

Friday’s opponents Crewe are in equally poor form, so this appears a good chance for Ian Evatt to get his side back on track, although whether the hosts can be trusted to get all three points at a short odds on price is another question.

The Trotters have only tasted defeat twice in home league games so far this season – and those opponents are now two of the current top three in League One, so there is a case to be made for a positive result.

Crewe arrive at the University of Bolton Stadium with the third worst away record in the division, having lost five and drawn three of their road games. Two of those away points came against two of the top three, so they appear to be a team that revel in the underdog role.

Bolton and Crewe do have one thing in common that informs our selection and that is the propensity to both score and concede goals – sometimes within the space of a few minutes. A case in point for that being Crewe’s 2-1 away defeat at Wycombe last month when they equalised on 77 minutes only to succumb to a 90th-minute home winner.

Wanderers under pressure to halt slide

The Railwaymen’s record of conceding either on the stroke of half-time or from midway through the second half onwards perhaps suggests a conditioning issue at the club, but it nonetheless hints at Bolton getting a goal on Friday. Evatt’s side haven’t kept a home clean sheet in their last six or a League One clean sheet in their last ten attempts, so we’re comfortable in taking the odds on both teams finding the back of the net.

The pressure is on both teams for different treasons, but Evatt and Bolton may be feeling it slightly more at the moment, which could give them the edge to secure a 2-1 win. While only one of Crewe’s away results this season has been by that exact score, five more have been within one goal of it, so we believe it is a value play in correct score betting.
