Reason For Bordeaux vs Strasbourg Predictions

  • Bordeaux are currently on a run of four consecutive wins at the Matmut Atlantique.
  • Strasbourg have lost seven of their last eight away games.
  • Bordeaux have won four of their last five clashes with Strasbourg.

Strasbourg awful on the road

Over the last few weeks Strasbourg have been the best team in Europe for the neutral to watch. Goals have been on tap with 23 being scored in their last five games, 13 of which were netted by the Alsatians. They continued that trend last week as they beat Toulouse 4-2, making it the third time they’ve scored four goals in their last five matches.

Thierry Laurey really can get them playing some extremely fun football but their defence usually suffers as a result of this, with 10 goals conceded in their last five matches, eight of them coming against teams currently in the bottom half. Much of this defensive turmoil has come on the road as Strasbourg have lost seven of their last eight away games.

Their most recent trip to Brest saw them concede five goals in an awful performance. While they’ll be determined to not disappoint their fans again in this away trip, they have showed very little to suggest they can get the three points. They have scored in just one of their last nine away games in all competitions and with those goals coming against an extremely out-of-sorts Amiens side, it could be a different story as they travel to the home of les Girondins.

Girondins flying up the table

Paolo Sousa’s Bordeaux have been in flying form recently, with an incredible mix of hungry youth players and experienced old heads lifting them to 5th in the table. They have been so exciting to watch with teams struggling to keep up with their sharp passing and pace up top. However, they suffered a setback on Sunday as they endured their first defeat since October.

The game finished 3-1 to Marseille despite Bordeaux leading at half-time; but in truth it was a soggy performance from the Girondins, something that has been a rarity for them this season. Bordeaux will be glad to return to the Matmut Atlantique, where they have been imperious so far in the campaign.

The home stadium has been where they have picked up most of their recent points, with them currently on a run of four consecutive wins there. Sturdy sides like Monaco (2-1) and Nantes (2-0) have been surpassed in the last few weeks; but the hosts also showed last week they can really turn it on when they want, thrashing Nîmes 6-0.

An exciting clash on the cards?

Bordeaux have generally been solid defensively at home, with just one goal conceded in their last four matches at the Atlantique. But with them conceding three last week to Marseille and with Strasbourg hitting four against Toulouse, we can’t see them keeping it tight in this one.

Nevertheless, with the hosts’ incredible form in front of their own fans, we’re backing them to get the win over a team who have been awful on the road. We’re also going to target the BTTS market here as it has won in three of Strasbourg’s last five games, as well as four of Bordeaux’s last five. We think this’ll end 2-1 to the home side.
