• Mainz have managed only two wins in their last six games
• Both teams have scored in eight of Dortmund’s last ten matches

Dortmund can capitalise on Mainz decline

Following a strong start, Mainz have seen their Bundesliga campaign unravel recently and that does not bode well for them ahead of their visit to Dortmund this weekend.

Mainz are winless in each of their last three assignments, losing to Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin following a goalless stalemate with Freiburg and they could struggle to tame hosts Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund have won six of their last seven matches across the Bundesliga and Champions League group stage and prolific front man Erling Haaland leads the way in the German top flight’s scoring charts with seven goals and three assists this term.

But as is often the case with Dortmund, they still look vulnerable at the back, having conceded in all but one of their last ten fixtures across all competitions.

And so when Marco Rose’s men host Mainz this weekend, the best bet could be Dortmund to win and both teams to score with the visitors able to cause a stir with Marcus Ingvartsen and youngster Jonathan Burkardt in their attacking armoury.

And given three of Dortmund’s last four victories have been by single-goal margins, a 2-1 win looks the best correct score prediction at the Signal Iduna Park.
