Opponents looking for crucial win

Seattle Sounders and Botafogo face an uphill battle to qualify from Group B of the Club World Cup, with Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid also in the section.

As a result this opening match between the two looks set to be make or break for the American and Brazilian pair if either of them are to qualify.

The Sounders have a big advantage in the fact that they will play all three of their group games at their home stadium, Lumen Field, and they look overpriced to get the better of Botafogo here.

Seattle have only lost once at home in the MLS this season and while Botafogo won both the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Serie A last season, almost everything that could have gone wrong since then has.

Fogo have lost their manager and star player from that side, with Thiago Almada and Artur Jorge departing in the offseason.

They have struggled since then, scraping through the Copa Libertadores group stages, and currently sit sixth in the Brazilian top flight.

Sounders could edge it

Seattle are not the same team that won the CONCACAF Champions League in 2022 but they have been solid in the MLS this term and in front of their home support, they look a tempting bet to get the win.

This could be a cagey affair given the circumstances and both teams’ need to win, goals have been hard to come by for Botafogo this season and the Sounders could edge a 1-0 victory.
