Mechelen vs Club Brugge Predictions

  • Club Brugge have kept just one clean sheet in their last six league games.
  • Mechelen are without a clean sheet in four.
  • Both teams have scored in each of Brugge’s last five away games.

Mechelen hoping to bridge the gap

It has been quite the start to this campaign for Mechelen who already hold wins over each of the top two teams in the division this season. The hosts have beaten both Royale Union SG and Antwerp and find themselves in fourth place.

They will be looking to close in on their guests here as they welcome a Club Brugge outfit who sit third, four points above them. A 1-0 defeat in their last outing to St.Truiden ended Mechelen’s seven-game unbeaten run, six of which were wins.

They have won four of their seven home league games this season and have only failed to score in one game as hosts since January, making them well worth backing to at least score.

Brugge in contention

Eight games unbeaten in Belgium’s First Division has seen Brugge climb towards the top of the table. Brugge are third on 27 points, level with Antwerp in second and four behind the league leaders Royale Union SG. The reigning champions have lost just once in the league this season and the only team to beat them since August is Manchester City.

This venue has proved a happy hunting ground for Brugge in the past as well having won each of their last five trips scoring multiple goals on each occasion.

They haven’t lost in 13 meetings with Mechelen home or away and boast won of the best records on the road in the division. Only league-leaders Royale Union have taken more points than their tally of 14 away from home.

The visitors have drawn 1-1 at Antwerp and won 1-0 at Royale Union so have proved they are more than capable of carving out a result. Mechelen have been performing well but only four sides in the league have conceded more goals hence why I’m backing a 2-1 Brugge win here.
