AFC Bournemouth to Win

Reason for tip

Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Tuesday night was their sixth on the spin under Frank Lampard and they could be in for another miserable afternoon when they visit a Bournemouth side full of confidence.

AFC Bournemouth 2-1

Reason for tip

With seven-goal Kai Havertz their top scorer in the Premier League this season, it is fair to say Chelsea have been struggling going forwards and they could be edged in a low-scoring affair by the Cherries. Back Bournemouth to win 2-1.

AFC Bournemouth vs Chelsea Predictions

  • Bournemouth have won four of their last five games in the Premier League
  • Chelsea have won only four matches in 2023
  • The Blues have also failed to score in 13 games this calendar year
  • Bournemouth have conceded in three of their last four matches

Chelsea’s confidence through the floor after Arsenal mauling

Chelsea were outclassed by Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal on Tuesday night and things could go from bad to worse for the wounded Blues when they travel to Bournemouth this weekend.

Their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal was Chelsea’s sixth successive loss in all competitions since Frank Lampard took charge and the situation at the club is looking desolate.

They have lost to Wolves, Brighton, Brentford and the Gunners in the league and lost both legs of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Real Madrid in the last month.

As a result, they head into this Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth only nine points above the relegation zone and they could drop to 14th if results do not go their way.

That is despite a transfer outlay of more than £600 million this season and it is fair to say the club has had a tough time of it under the co-ownership of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali so far.

Goals an issue for wounded Blues

It would still take a lot for Chelsea to be relegated given the inconsistencies of the teams around them but to even be in the conversation for the drop at this stage of the season is astonishing.

Defensively they have been lacking, having fallen 3-0 down after only 34 minutes against a rampant Arsenal last time out, but it is arguably in the final third where their most pressing problems lie.

Chelsea have scored only 31 goals in 33 Premier League matches this season but their expected goals for figure is 44.27, suggesting they are underperforming in the box.

Kai Havertz is their top scorer on a paltry seven goals in the Premier League this season and they are worth opposing once again on Saturday.

Cherries on brink of confirming Premier League status

Incredibly, this Saturday’s opponents Bournemouth would leapfrog Chelsea in the Premier League standings with a win and there is every chance that will happen.

The Cherries are flying under Gary O’Neil, having won four of their last five matches, the most recent of which was a 4-1 hammering of relegation rivals Leeds.

Bournemouth have also beaten Tottenham away as part of their recent run and should fancy their chances of claiming another scalp when they welcome Chelsea to the Vitality Stadium.

But even with Chelsea’s woeful recent record, Bournemouth are unlikely to run away with it, so a low-scoring matchup could be on the cards on the south coast.

In terms of a correct score prediction, back Bournemouth to win 2-1.
