Reason For AFC Bournemouth vs Chelsea Predictions

Bournemouth take on Chelsea at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday, hoping to extend their recent good run of form on the south coast against a Chelsea team that enjoyed a double dose of Cup fortune this week.

The Cherries secured a much-needed win in their most recent outing against a talented West Ham outfit last weekend. Bournemouth had gone 5 without a win before their triumph against the Irons, and remarkably the victory was only their 3rd in 15 matches since early November.

While their performances have generally been competitive, Bournemouth’s results have been alarmingly poor. Frustratingly, Eddie Howe has been unable to find a way to plug the leaks in his side’s defence – only 3 teams (Fulham, Cardiff and Burnley) have conceded more goals than the Cherries in the Premier League this season.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Bournemouth however – a run of 3 league games without defeat at home will lift spirits a little, though Chelsea will represent a much tougher challenge than Brighton, Watford and West Ham did.

The Blues make the two-hour hop to the south coast having successfully come through two cup tests inside a week. Chelsea needed penalty kicks to see-off an injury hit Tottenham Hotspur in the Semi Final of the Carabao Cup, before they cruised past Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup 4th Round at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea beat the Owls 3-0 in West London, a scoreline that provided Sarri’s men with their 1st clean sheet in 5 games. Coincidentally, the last time the Blues kept an opponent out was also in the FA Cup against Championship side Nottingham Forest in Round 3.

In the Premier League, clean sheets have been harder to come by for Chelsea. The Blues have managed to keep their adversaries off the scoresheet just 4 times in their last 11 league fixtures.

Bournemouth will like the look of those numbers – the Cherries’ attack only failed to score in 2 of their 12 Premier League games at the Vitality Stadium this season, and they will back themselves to register again this week.

However, Bournemouth’s inability to keep things tight at the other end means that the chances of a Cherries clean sheet this week are incredibly slim, especially when you consider that Chelsea have beaten them in 6 of the teams’ last 7 meetings.

Chelsea’s top of the table rivals, Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool all left the Vitality Stadium with maximum points this season, and we’re backing the Blues to do the same. We think Sarri’s charges look a great bet to complete a hattrick of wins against Bournemouth this season, after Chelsea’s 2-0 and 1-0 triumphs against them in the Premier League and Carabao Cup respectively before Christmas.

With everything considered, the Chelsea away win and both teams to score combination look fantastic value for Wednesday’s clash. We’re also tipping the Blues to win 2-1 in our correct score forecast.
