Bradford vs Hull City Predictions

  • Hull City have made an unbeaten start to the Championship season, beating Bristol City and drawing at Preston North End.
  • Bradford City, meanwhile, have taken just one point from their opening two games in League Two.
  • Bradford have won just two of their eight competitive home games since Mark Hughes took charge in February.

Tigers set to roar in Yorkshire Derby

The EFL Cup’s first round pits Yorkshire rivals Bradford City and Hull City against one another for the first time since April 2005 on Tuesday, with two divisions now separating the Bantams from the Tigers. Shota Arveladze’s visitors have made a strong start to their Championship campaign, and look set to progress to the second round for the 10th time in 11 seasons here.

Indeed, a win over Bristol City and a draw over Preston North End have Hull among the second tier’s pace-setters, with new recruits Jean Michael Seri and Ozan Tufan impressing. The Tigers have lost just three of their 10 competitive away games since Arveladze took charge in January, keeping six clean sheets in that run, and should be too good for lower-league opponents here.

Bradford would have been anticipating a strong first full campaign under Mark Hughes, but have picked up just one point from their first two games in the fourth tier despite dominating the play in each. The Bantams have won just twice at home since Hughes took charge in February, and only five League Two outfits had worse home records last term (28 points from 23 games).

Visitors to make cup progress

Given their strong start to the season after an exciting summer on the transfer front, backing Hull to progress against lower-league opponents looks a prudent play.

Meanwhile, the Tigers’ strong defensive record makes a 2-0 away win look a strong correct score prediction.
