Brentford vs Birmingham Predictions
This game was scheduled for August but problems with the Griffin Park pitch meant it had to be postponed until now. Since the postponement there has been contrasting fortunes for these sides with Birmingham doing considerably better than Brentford but even the Blues have hit a bit of a rough patch of late.
Whenever Brentford are involved there are usually goals but worryingly for them, too many of them have been at the wrong end. They have scored and concded in all but one of their Championship games so far and Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday meant it was the 14th Championship game in a row at Griffin Park which has had 3 or more goals in it.
The goals have dried up a little for Birmingham in recent weeks with successive home defeats against Nottingham Forest and Rotherham. However they’ve not lost any of their last 5 away matches in the league and caused a fair few problems for Premier League city rivals Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup last week despite sinking to a 1-0 defeat.
This should be an open game and one that both sides will believe they can win. Brentford’s naturally attacking persuasion should leave gaps at the back which Birmingham are well capable of exploiting on the break with the pace of the likes of Demarai Gray and Clayton Donaldson.
Therefore goals seem likely and you can again back there to be over 2.5 goals at Griffin Park at odds of 4/5, which seem generous to say the least when you consider that has happened at every game on this ground since January.
Birmingham have been the more impressive side this season though and their current form is probably nothing more than a blip. The Blues camp is a happy one right now with Gary Rowett extremely popular with the fans which is more than you can say about the situation at Brentford right now.
They look a shadow of the side that reached the play-offs under Mark Warburton and at 10/1 Birmingham are good value to win 2-1 and inflict a 4th home defeat in 5 games on Brentford.
