Brentford vs Charlton Predictions

  • Brentford have won their last five league games to nil
  • Charlton have won only four of their 20 away league games this term
  • Both teams have scored in only one of Charlton’s last ten league fixtures

Brentford can maintain their promotion push

Brentford are in hot pursuit of West Brom for automatic promotion and they should keep those aspirations alive with victory over Charlton.

The Bees are buzzing under Thomas Frank and five consecutive wins to nil highlights the difficulty in task Charlton are faced with.

No side has been more productive at home this season than Brentford, who have won 12 and drew five of their 20 league matches at Griffin Park.

Since football’s resumption, Brentford have won 2-0 at Fulham and 1-0 at home to West Brom and they have little to fear against a Charlton side still embroiled in a relegation scrap.

With clean sheets in eight of their 20 home games and an array of attacking talent at their disposal, Brentford should claim maximum points and there’s value in them doing it without conceding.

Charlton face daunting task

With five games to go, Charlton are outside the relegation places by just two points and this is another important game in their battle for survival.

However, the Addicks have won only four of their 20 away league games this term and only three teams have scored fewer than their 46-goal total.

Charlton have scored only twice in four games since football’s resumption and their lack of firepower against such talented opposition doesn’t bode well. Lee Bowyer’s side lost 1-0 at home to Millwall on Friday and they managed just three shots on target.

Having also failed to score in three of their last four away games, Charlton look up against it at a Brentford side who are defensively resolute.

Low-scoring home win makes appeal

Both teams have scored in only one of Charlton’s last ten league fixtures and we are not predicting things to change at Griffin Park.

In fact, Charlton have fired blanks in six of their 20 away assignments – including three of their last four – and there are few road trips tougher than a visit to Brentford.

Both teams have scored in only two of the last six league meetings between the pair and although Charlton won the reverse fixture 1-0, Brentford are in a much happier place now and are performing at the top of their game.

There has been one goal or fewer in each of Charlton’s last five games, with the Addicks suffering 1-0 defeats against Middlesbrough and Millwall in that time.

Charlton are plucky and well-organised and it may take some time for Brentford to find their breakthrough, so our prediction is a 1-0 home win.
