Brentford vs Nottingham Forest Predictions
Since the arrival of Lee Carsley as manager in late September, Brentford have tightened up considerably at the back and it has helped transform their fortunes. They have only conceded 4 times in their last 6 matches and 2 of those goals were against leaders Hull, who ended their 4 match winning run in their last home game.
Brentford bounced back with a solid point at Blackburn last time out though and the Londoners look a fairly strong all-round unit once more after their chaotic start to the season when they were leaking goals and looked a shadow of the side that reached the play-offs last term.
Even though they are down in 18th place, Nottingham Forest are also quite strong defensively with only 16 goals conceded in 16 games so far. They come into this game after a huge win against bitter East Midlands rivals Derby County. Portuguese international Nélson Oliveira scored the only goal in that game after just 5 minutes at the City Ground a fortnight ago but while appreciated by the Forest faithful, it has been the only positive for the club in recent weeks. Their form prior to that was awful, with just 3 points coming from their previous 8 Championship games.
They have been involved in plenty of low-scoring matches. There have been 2 or fewer goals in all of their last 8 fixtures and with Brentford looking good defensively too, this could be another low scoring contest and certainly there looks to be value in backing there to be under 2.5 goals here at 9/10.
When you are a club the size of Nottingham Forest, one good result certainly doesn’t make a season, even when it is against your biggest rivals. There are still plenty of problems that Dougie Freedman is faced with and given Brentford are at home and have looked much the more impressive side over the past month or so, they are decent value to nick this 1-0 at 7/1.
