- Brighton have three wins in six attempts at home.
Albion in need of a result
Brighton entertain Ajax in the Europa League on Thursday and both sides are seeking their first group stage victories.
The Seagulls have just one point to show from two games so far and Ajax have two on the board. This isn’t a must win game for the Premier League outfit just yet with three rounds of fixtures to play after Thursday’s game, but a defeat would be a big blow to their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
Back both teams to score
Both of these sides head into this game in poor form as Brighton are winless in five, while Ajax are having a disastrous campaign by their standards as they are on an eight-game winless run – and they sit in the relegation places in the Eredivisie.
Albion should be able to make the most of home advantage but the best starting point for this game is both teams to score.
There have been goals at both ends in 11 of Brightons 12 games across all competitions this season and they haven’t managed a clean sheet. Ajax’s defence has been abysmal and they shipped four goals against a Utrecht side on Sunday that had scored just four goals in total in their opening eight league games, while both teams have scored in five of their last six games.
Home advantage key
Ajax have far more experience of European football but with home advantage Brighton should win here. The Seagulls may be on a five-game winless streak but they have faced three of the top five in their last three league games and have won three of their six home games in all competitions, so they should be able to see off this struggling Ajax outfit.
A 3-1 win for Brighton is the correct score prediction as they have scored at least three goals in all three of their home wins, while Ajax have shipped three or more goals in four of their last six games overall.
The hosts have scored four goals in total in the Europa League and Joao Pedro has hit three of those, so the 22-year-old is the clear standout pick for an anytime goal.
