Brighton vs Luton Predictions
- Brighton won 10 of their 19 Premier League home games last season.
- Albion conceded in five of their final six games.
- Luton have scored in eight of their last nine competitive games.
Tough opener for promoted Luton
Luton defied the odds last season to win promotion from the Championship via the play-offs but Premier League survival would eclipse that feat.
The Hatters face an incredibly tough opener at Brighton on Saturday, although the Seagulls could face a trickier campaign themselves after losing Alexis Mac Allister and Robert Sánchez to Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.
Hatters can grab a goal
Brighton finished in the European spots last season and remain a strong team despite the aforementioned departures. Albion won 10 of their 19 home league games and lost just five. Only one of those defeats came against a team that finished in the bottom half of the table, which in all likelihood is where Luton will find themselves at the end of the campaign.
A home win should be expected but is too short a price, so the value option here looks to be a Brighton win and both teams to score.
The Seagulls have hardly been clean sheet specialists under Roberto De Zerbi and they managed just one shut-out in their final six games.
Luton should arrive in confident mood after promotion and they may be able to play with freedom in these opening rounds of games, with little expectation on them ahead of the new season. The Hatters scored in eight of their final nine games last season and only failed to score in one pre-season fixture, so they can at least get on the scoresheet as they return to top flight action for the first time since 1992.
Brighton can wreck Luton party
I am predicting a Luton goal, but Brighton are an excellent attacking side who are more than capable of grabbing multiple goals on Saturday.
Albion claimed some eye-catching wins at the Amex last term, including a 6-0 win over Wolves, a 3-0 win over Liverpool and a 4-0 win over Chelsea. Brighton can win with some room to spare here and a 3-1 victory for the hosts looks a reasonable suggestion, while Danny Welbeck is a potential scorer.
Welbeck scored a modest six goals in 31 appearances last year in the league but has looked sharp in pre-season with two goals in three games.
