Brighton vs Preston Predictions
Chris Hughton’s men have a 4 point lead at the top of the table and therefore will stay in top spot whatever happens here but they could open up a 7 point lead with a win. It’s probably fair to say that nobody could have foreseen Brighton topping the table at this stage of the season but they are the only team that has managed to be consistently impressive so far.
At home they have been particularly strong with 5 wins and a draw coming from their 6 league games at the AmEx. Their latest win came in midweek when they overturned a 1-0 half-time deficit to win 2-1 on the South Coast against Bristol City with club legend Bobby Zamora netting his 2nd late winner in the space of 4 days after he did likewise at Leeds last weekend.
They face another of the newly promoted clubs here and a Preston side that will have been buoyed by a thumping 3-0 win at Charlton in midweek. That lifted them out of the drop-zone where they have spent most of the season and they might approach this with a little more confidence than they otherwise might have.
However there is a big difference between playing a woefully out-of-sorts Charlton side and the challenge that a red-hot Brighton will bring. That win was Preston’s first since August and they had lost their previous 3 away Championship away games.
Therefore at 3/4 you have to really fancy Brighton to pick up another win here as they are very much in the habit of doing.
In terms of a correct scoreline it is worth noting that all of Brighton’s 9 wins so far this season have been by just a single goal. With Preston looking a bit more dangerous in the final third now they might just nick a goal here but Brighton look good value at 15/2 to win this 2-1, which would be the 5th time already this season they had won by that margin.
