      Brighton vs Rotherham Predictions

We may only be 6 games in to the new season but already 14 points separate these clubs. It’s top against bottom but in this league just about anything can happen so we shouldn’t jump straight to the conclusion that this will be an easy home win and odds of 6/5 on Rotherham getting a result reflect that this is no foregone conclusion.

Rotherham picked up a good result at the weekend, drawing 1-1 at Charlton, who have also started the season very brightly. They aren’t quite as bad as their points return or position suggests and they’ve scored in all but one of their 8 competitive fixtures so far this season.

That one game was at home to a fairly cautious Preston side in a match that finished 0-0 but in all the matches they’ve played against sides that have really attacked them, they have scored. Certainly Brighton as the league leaders, with 16 points from their opening 6 games will come at them strongly here and there is no reason to think the visitors will change their approach given this isn’t the first difficult away game they’ve had.

Brighton may have won all their home games 1-0 so far but strangely Rotherham may be more positive than the likes of Hull, Blackburn and Nottingham Forest who all were somewhat cautious and probably content with a point from the off. The Millers would clearly take a point but they aren’t good enough defensively to just sit back and hope for a 0-0 draw so this could be quite an open game as has been the case when Brighton have played more positive sides away from home.

Therefore consider backing there to be Over 2.5 Goals here at 43/40. This also allows for the eventuality that the hosts just prove far too strong on the night but it’s more likely to be a close game with goals in it and one that will highlight the competitiveness of the Championship.

In terms of a correct scoreline, you still have to fancy Brighton to just nick it given they are playing with confidence and are in the habit of just doing enough to win football matches. However we can see Rotherham scoring so a 2-1 home win looks good value at 15/2.
