Tip Reasoning

  • Brisbane Roar have lost three and drawn one of their first four A-League games this season.
  • Melbourne City have won four of their last five games against Brisbane Roar, two of which have been by 1-0. corresponding match last season.
  • Melbourne City have the lowest xG against of all A-League clubs when playing away this season (0.67).

Roar struggling to find their voice

A rough start to the A-League season is likely to continue for Brisbane Roar when they entertain reigning premiers and champions Melbourne City on Monday.

The Roar have taken just a solitary point from their first four fixtures and sit bottom of the table, albeit having played a game fewer than some after their clash with Perth Glory was postponed.

Scoring goals has been an issue for Warren Moon’s men, who were a little below average in that category last season. The Roar have the second-worst xG figure so far this season and have found the back of the net only once. Defensively, only Sydney FC conceded fewer regular season goals than the Orange last term, but Moon’s men have shipped six through their first 360 minutes of football.

City defence giving few chances away

City boss Patrick Kisnorbo is happy with how his side have begun the defence of their first national title, although he knows they can tighten up in some areas.

Socceroos striker Jamie Maclaren is available for this after serving a one-match suspension in the midweek cup tie and he could prove to be the difference-maker in a game of few chances. City have the lowest xG against of all A-League clubs when playing away this season (0.67) and can shut out the blunt Brisbane attack on their way to a 1-0 victory.

That scoreline has proven to be good enough in two of City’s last four wins over the Roar and it looks the value pick in the correct score market.
