Brisbane Roar vs Western United Predictions
- Brisbane Roar have been unable to hold down any form, alternating wins and losses in their last five games, scoring seven goals and conceding 11.
- Western United ended a run of three defeats when they beat Melbourne Victory last weekend, also scoring their first goal in three matches.
- This is the first ever meeting between the two sides but so far this season games featuring either have averaged 2.5 goals.
- The two sides have only kept two clean sheets between them so far this season.
Can Brisbane Roar find a win?
Brisbane Roar have found it difficult to hold down any form in recent weeks, alternating between wins and losses over the past five games and this has led to them to ninth in the league, just about keeping in touch with the top six but not being able to draw clear of the very bottom of the league. A couple of wins in a row would really help the side climb the table but they are struggling for consistency.
They have been able to find the net but their main issues have been at the other end of the pitch with 11 goals conceded in just five games, the 5-1 defeat last weekend against Sydney FC compounded their defensive frailties. Robbie Fowler will have his work cut out to rediscover the early-season form that saw them concede just two goals in their opening three games.
Western United’s poor run behind them
The win against Melbourne Victory last weekend came at the right time with Western United’s poor form seeing them lose their previous three games and falling 11 points behind the leaders, Sydney FC. Their debut season in the A-League has generally gone well, winning four of their nine games and impressing most with their ability to create chances in the final third, with 11 goals scored.
Their weakness has been in defence, though, conceding the same amount as they’ve scored and looking a little off the pace. This is to be expected as they come to terms with the league and the quality of some the opposing attacking line-ups. They’ve generally been able to hold their own, however, and will be confident of coming away from Brisbane with a result.
Too close to call between two even sides?
There isn’t a lot to pick between these two, with them both having their defensive limitations and good attacking options, but with those two things at the forefront of our minds, we’re predicting both sides will find the net this weekend and continue their trend of not being able to keep a clean sheet.
There isn’t a clear winner coming into the game, though, and we’d be hard pushed to pick an outright winner. A draw looks quite likely and with the two sides both hoping to focus on their defensive stability, a 1-1 result looks the most likely between two of the most evenly matched sides in the league.
