Bristol City vs Brighton Predictions

This promises to be a really good contest between two sides who have made promising starts to the season. Brighton are in the better overall form and come into this game following that stunning 5-0 win over Norwich last weekend. You can never rest on your laurels in the Championship though and this will be another major test of their credentials. The Seagulls have only lost once on the road this term and their record of just two defeats overall is the best in the division.

However, Brighton do draw quite a lot of games on the road. 43% of their away matches this term have finished all square as did a massive 52% of their away games last season in the Championship. They will come looking for the win here but are unlikely to take massive risks to get it, given a draw at Ashton Gate isn’t a bad result these days.

Bristol City have looked good on their own patch this term averaging 2.29 points per home game, a record that only 2 sides in the division can better. They have only won 1 of their last 5 games overall though so aren’t in blistering form and it’s hard to see them winning this but they have enough about them to suggest they’ll get a result from the game.

This match should see two of the division’s top three goalscorers face off. Both Tammy Abraham and Glenn Murray have 9 Championship goals to their name already this term. 7 of Murray’s 9 goals have come in just 3 matches though, so he has only netted in 5 of his 15 league appearances and hasn’t bagged in the cup compared to Abraham who has scored in 11 different matches in all competitions since the start of the season. Therefore, the youngster has been the more prolific overall and 6 of his 9 league strikes have been opening goals, so backing Tammy Abraham to score first at 11/2 looks a tempting bet here.

Brighton don’t concede many goals though and have the best defensive record in the division with just 0.6 goals per game conceded so far. Therefore, Bristol City aren’t likely to get many chances in this one but they have only conceded 0.71 goals per game at home themselves so this isn’t necessarily going to be a game were attack triumphs over defence and a low-scoring draw looks a likely outcome. So backing this to finish in a 1-1 draw at 11/2 looks a sensible bet in the correct score market.
