Bristol City vs West Brom Predictions
The Robins came within seconds of causing one of the shocks of the 3rd Round at the Hawthorns 10 days ago. Goals from Jonathan Kodjia and Kieran Agard had put them 2-1 up on their top flight opponents going into stoppage time. However as has often been the case this season, they couldn’t see the job through and James Morrison scored a very late goal to send the tie to a replay.
A lot has happened since then though for Bristol City. They lost 2-1 at home to Preston just 3 days later and subsequently sacked manager Steve Cotterill to the disbelief of many given he was the man who had salvaged the club from the depths of League One and guided them back to the 2nd tier.
The short term effects of the sacking at least were positive as Bristol City pulled off a shock 1-0 win over Championship leaders Middlesbrough on Saturday. It actually completed the double over the Teesiders, which is bizarre given Bristol City have only won 3 other games in the league all season but does perhaps suggest that they are capable of raising their game against the better sides and if they were to beat West Brom here it would be no more surprising than their win at the weekend.
The Baggies put in one of their worst showings of the season as they were beaten 3-0 at Southampton on Saturday. They are still in a relatively comfortable position in the league but can’t afford a slump in form, which could see them dragged back into the relegation mire. They face Birmingham rivals Aston Villa this weekend in the league so will have one eye on that but will also be keen to make progress in this competition.
West Brom haven’t won away from home in 6 attempts though and Bristol City will approach the game with a bit of confidence given the way they played in the first game and on Saturday. Therefore backing Bristol City to avoid defeat inside 90 minutes at 4/5 is worth a bet.
It’s a tough game to call and it could well go the distance so consider backing this to finish 1-1 in the 90 minutes at 5/1.
