Burkina Faso vs Tunisia Predictions

  • Under 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in three of Burkina Faso’s four AFCON games and three of Tunisia’s.
  • Tunisia have failed to score in two of their games in Cameroon.
  • Burkina Faso have scored one goal in each of their four games.
  • Burkina Faso have won three of the six meetings between these two nations.

Goals could be at a premium as Stallions take on Tunisia

Burkina Faso and Tunisia meet in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday and goals could be in short supply at the Stade Omnisport Roumde Adjia in Garoua.

Tunisia have scored five goals in four games at AFCON but four of those came against minnows Mauritania. The Eagles of Carthage failed to score against Mali and Gambia in the group stages, losing both games 1-0, and one goal was enough to see off the 10 men of Nigeria in the previous round.

Burkina Faso have scored one goal in each of their four games so far and three of those matches have seen under 2.5 goals scored in total. There have been under 2.5 goals scored in three of Tunisia’s four games, and as such that is the main bet for this AFCON last eight tie.

Underdogs Burkina may have the edge

Burkina Faso are ranked 60th in the FIFA rankings, 30 spots below Tunisia, and are the underdogs for this tie but they may just have the edge. Neither side has been particularly impressive so far, but the Stallions have at least managed to score against all of their opponents and their only defeat so far has come via a 2-1 loss to hosts Cameroon, while Tunisia have lost twice.

Kamou Malo’s men needed penalties to beat Gabon in their first knockout tie after conceding an injury time leveller via a Adama Guira own goal, but they have managed one clean sheet in the tournament and have three shut outs in their last six games going back to their warm-up matches, and they may well be able to keep a shut out against this Tunisia side who have struggled for goals.

Burkina Faso won 2-0 the last time these sides met, at AFCON in 2017, and boast the superior head-to-head record with three wins to Tunisia’s one in six games. I’m not expecting too many goals but Burkina Faso are yet to draw a blank and a 1-0 win for the West African nation has a chance in the correct score market.
