Burnley -1

Reason for tip

Burnley were sharp and efficient in beating fellow Premier League dropouts Luton 4-1 at Kenilworth Road on Monday and should follow that up against an injury-hit Cardiff side that lost 2-0 at home to Sunderland. The Bluebirds lost six of their final 10 Championship away games last season by more than one goal, which does not augur well for this trip to Turf Moor.

Burnley 3-1

Reason for tip

The Clarets can score plenty of goals and come up against a Cardiff side who lost 2-0 at home in their opener. The Bluebirds lost six of their final ten away games last season by at least two goals, but they could score against the Clarets.

Burnley vs Cardiff Predictions

  • Burnley began the season with a bang, beating fellow Premier League dropouts Luton 4-1 at Kenilworth Road
  • Injury-hit Cardiff lost 2-0 at home to Sunderland
  • Cardiff lost six of their final 10 Championship away games last season by more than one goal

Bluebirds beset by injuries

Burnley began their quest to regain a Premier League place with an impressive 4-1 away win at Luton and there are few reasons to doubt their ability to follow that up with three more points at home to Cardiff.

The Bluebirds are beset by injuries with striker Callum Robinson hurting his Achilles in their 2-0 home loss to Sunderland last weekend after David Turnbull had picked up a groin problem in the warm-up.  Summer arrival Anwar El Ghazi is still a few weeks away from contention while Jamilu Collins and Kion Etete, who started 33 and 12 league games respectively last term, are out for at least a couple more months.

It is undoubtedly a good time to be facing Erol Bulut’s side and this is an opportunity Burnley, who scored four goals from six efforts on target and nine shots overall at Kenilworth Road, are unlikely to pass up.

Parker in the driving seat

The impressive shot conversion rate and general efficiency of Scott Parker’s side against Luton suggest they can cover a one-goal handicap in this home fixture against a side that did not have much success on the road last term.

Cardiff lost more away matches than Huddersfield, who were relegated, but they were able to win a few as well. However, it was their inability to manage situations in which they were on course for a point that saw them lose 12 times on the road and that will have to improve this season.

Backing Burnley to cover a one-goal handicap seems a fair bet for this clash given the visitors began with a 2-0 home defeat and lost six of their last 10 away league games last season by at least two goals.
