      Burnley vs Preston Predictions

These clubs are two of English football’s oldest names and both are having solid seasons so far that have been more or less in line with their pre-season ambitions. Burnley are well placed to mount a serious promotion challenge in 5th place and are only 2 points shy of the automatic promotion positions. Preston meanwhile are somewhat surprisingly the highest placed of the newly promoted sides and they have certainly been the most impressive. They are the only one of the trio that has looked solid defensively at the higher level and they should be able to give Burnley a good game this weekend.

It is just 1 defeat in 8 games now for the Deepdale side but they have only won 1 of their last 6 matches. Their last two matches have resulted in a defeat in another Lancashire derby at home to Blackburn prior to a draw at Fulham last time out.

It is also worth noting that only one of those 8 matches were against sides in the top 9 and therefore a trip to Burnley is going to be a step up in class on most of their recent opponents. Sean Dyche’s side have been held to 3 successive draws but all were relatively tricky games and that did extend their unbeaten run to 9 matches.

They’ve taken 10 points from their last 4 league games on home soil with unbeaten leaders Brighton the only side to escape with a point and at 11/10 they look really good value to get back to winning ways here against 18th placed Preston.

Preston’s main problem is that they don’t score enough goals and they were dealt a blow in midweek by the news that striker Stevie May will miss the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury sustained in the draw at Fulham last time out.

By contrast Burnley have the division’s top scorer in Andre Gray, who has netted 11 times just twice fewer than the entire Preston squad. That sort of quality could prove the difference here and backing a 2-0 home win might be the way to go at 15/2.
