Burton Albion vs Crewe Predictions

  • Burton Albion have won four of their last six home League One fixtures with at least three goals scored on three occasions.
  • Crewe Alexandra have lost five of their last six away League One fixtures with at least three goals scored on four occasions.
  • Burton and Crewe both average 3.16 goals per game across their last six home/away league games respectively.

Brewers have right formula for another home victory

Burton Albion will bid to reignite their promotion push against relegation-threatened Crewe Alexandra at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.

The Brewers have slipped down to 13th in the table – some 14 points off the playoff places – on the back of away defeats to sixth-placed Wycombe and leaders Rotherham. Neither loss can be considered too shabby or unexpected because Albion have only won twice away from home in the league all season and rarely get anything from the top clubs on their travels.

The bulk of the points that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side have accrued have come at home where Burton have won six of their eleven games and four of the last six. The visit of struggling Crewe, who have the third-worst away record in the division, offers the hosts a great chance to get back to winning ways.

Railwaymen signalling that they can score

Burton have scored 12 times in their last six at home with November’s League One Player of the Month Daniel Jebbison grabbing four of them. The on-loan Sheffield United starlet looks a cut above some of the defenders in League One and can help fire the Brewers to a good win to usher in 2022.

Crewe are also scoring goals in their travels, with a total of five struck in their last three League One road trips, but the Cheshire club have lost five of their last six away from Gresty Road.

An average of 3.16 goals per game have been scored in Burton’s last six homes and the average is identical from Crewe’s six most recent away trips, so a home win with at least three goals looks a good plan for this contest. As a correct score play, Burton to win 2-1 looks a good fit given Crewe have scored at a rate of exactly one per game across their last nine road trips and conceded 16 (average 1.78) during that spell.
