Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

This match has all the signs of being low-scoring, given both teams’ struggles in attack and the historical trend of under 2.5 goals in their recent head-to-head meetings. Six of Burton’s last eight League One games have also ended with fewer than three goals.

Northampton 1-0

Reason for tip

With Burton’s poor home form and Northampton’s marginally better record, a narrow 1-0 win for Kevin Nolan’s side could be a realistic outcome. Eight of Burton’s 13 defeats this season have been by a single goal, adding weight to this prediction.

Burton Albion vs Northampton Predictions

Low-scoring affair expected at Pirelli Stadium

There might not be too many goals when Burton Albion host Northampton in League One on Saturday.

The last four meetings in the league between the teams have gone under 2.5 goals and it is worth backing this to be the fifth straight match to feature no more than two goals.

Northampton are 19th in League One, five places and nine points above Gary Bowyer’s Burton. The visitors have won five, drawn eight and lost 11 of their 23 games, while Burton have just two wins so far, with 13 defeats and eight draws.

Both teams are struggling for form. Northampton have gone five League One games without a win, while Burton Albion have won just once in their last ten at home.

With both teams lacking in confidence it looks sensible to bet on an edgy encounter with goals at a premium. Six of Burton’s last eight League One games have had fewer than three goals.

Four of Burton Albion’s last five League One home games have also ended in defeat, and with eight of their 13 losses coming by the odd goal, a 1-0 win for a Northampton side manager by Kevin Nolan looks an interesting correct-score option.
