Cadiz vs Tenerife Predictions
Prior to last weekend’s loss against Barcelona B, Cadiz were looking like frontrunners for a place in the play-offs, especially after they got the better of Zaragoza on home soil. However, after losing out in their last match, Álvaro Cervera’s men are clinging onto sixth place by the skin of their teeth. With several other teams in with a chance of making the play-offs, the hosts need to win this fixture.
Tenerife are fractionally too far back to challenge for the play-offs, so this is essentially a meaningless fixture for them. However, rather than give up, the visitors, who won last time out, may go to Estadio Ramón de Carranza and play with freedom. After all, they’ve not been in bad form of late and are now unbeaten in three.
The visitors may come into this match with little pressure on their shoulders, but, against a strong side such as Cadiz, this could easily go against them. With nothing to fight for, motivation could be hard to muster. In other words, this is a big opportunity for Cadiz to retain their top-six position ahead of the final weekend.
Cadiz did lose last time out, but we shouldn’t forget how impressive they’ve been on home soil of late. The hosts come here having lost none of their last 16 matches at Estadio Ramón de Carranza, while they’ve been beaten at home just once all season. Impressive form indeed. With Tenerife having nothing to play for, it’s difficult to see José Luis Martí’s men becoming just the second team to topple Cadiz on their own patch this season.
Not only have Cadiz failed to lose for most of this campaign at home, but they’ve kept a staggering number of clean sheets. Cervera’s men have avoided being breached in each of their last three at home, while they’ve recorded a shutout in 65% of their home matches.
If we add Tenerife’s away record against teams currently inside the top eight into the mix, then the hosts become simply impossible to go against. The visitors come into this fixture having lost six of their seven games away against top-eight teams, while they’re without a win against such opposition on the road this season. What’s more, they’ve failed to score in five of those and have conceded a worrying total of 14 goals.
Cadiz aren’t often the highest scorers on their own patch, but this is an excellent opportunity for them to improve their goal difference, an opportunity that they’re expected to grab with both hands. Considering both Cadiz’s home performances and Tenerife’s displays on the road, especially against the top teams, the two bets that really stand out are ‘Cadiz -1 Handicap’ and Cadiz Win to Nil’.
