Cape Verde Islands vs Burkina Faso Predictions

  • Burkina have won their last two meetings with Cape Verde Islands without conceding.
  • Cape Verde struggled to take the initiative against a 10 man Ethiopia side and will find this even tougher.
  • Burkina Faso have conceded just one second-half goal across their last nine internationals.

Burkina Faso seeking firs AFCON points

It was a tale of two halves in Cape Verde’s opening match against Ethiopia as the one goal, two yellows and one red card all occurred in the opening 45 minutes. The second half was a dull affair but nevertheless, it was a result that means Cape Verde are probably one good performance and result away from a spot in the knockout stages. However, they’ll need to start well here as they have failed to score a second-half goal in five of their last eight international matches.

Burkina Faso’s last meeting with Cape Verde saw them emerge as 4-0 victors, and that result followed a third-place finish in the 2017 edition of the AFCON. A repeat of that result would be more than welcomed as their 2-1 defeat to Cameroon last time out has already left them playing catch-up in this tournament. Discipline is where they need to improve as they were leading the tournament hosts before gifting them two penalties. On the positive side, that result was their first loss on foreign soil since June 2021 (W4, D4).

Burkina Faso will have learnt from their previous match and should have much more quality on the pitch than Cape Verde. They’ve got the edge in recent meetings and we think they’ll get their tournament back on track with a more organised and professional performance whilst stopping opposition chances. We’re going with Burkina Faso to win to nil here.
