Cardiff vs Charlton Predictions
They made a really positive start to the season with some impressive results especially at home where they were looking very solid with three wins to nil coming in successive outings at the Cardiff City Stadium. However they’ve just fallen out of the top six after a couple of disappointing defeats.
Firstly they were beaten at home by Hull prior to another loss at previously winless Rotherham last weekend. The latter certainly was a bit of a surprise but they’ve had 7 days to put things right and they’ll be going all out to win this one with back-to-back away games coming up.
Certainly Cardiff’s dip in form is nowhere near as drastic as that of Charlton. Their first 6 games under Guy Luzon this season brought 4 wins and 2 draws and a real sense of optimism to the Valley. However they’ve now gone a month without a win, losing 4 of their last 5 matches.
The manner of their defeats is perhaps even more of a cause for concern. After taking just 1 point from home games against Rotherham and Huddersfield, both of whom were in the drop-zone at the time, they lost 3-0 away to a previously hapless Blackburn side before suffering another crushing 4-1 defeat at Crystal Palace in the Capital One Cup in midweek.
Their week on the road concludes in South Wales on Saturday and it’s hard to see it going much better than their previous games. Cardiff’s defeats are surely nothing more than a blip. Losing to a Hull side packed with Premier League experience is certainly no disgrace while their defeat at Rotherham probably wouldn’t have come about had goalkeeper David Marshall not been sent off in the closing moments of the first half.
He’ll be suspended here but against a Charlton side that have looked weak both defensively and going forward over the past month, you have to fancy Cardiff to bag the win here at Evens.
The Addicks will be determined to improve on their most recent league loss at Blackburn and may come with a slightly more cautious approach having conceded 7 times in 4 days. However Cardiff should still have enough about them to secure a solid 2-0 win, something they’ve already managed twice at home in the league this season, at 15/2.
