Cardiff vs Shrewsbury Betting Tips

Cardiff managed to break out of their mini slump last weekend when they beat Blackburn Rovers at home, with this victory making it two wins, two defeats, and one draw in their last five matches.

However, both of those defeats came away from home, and at home the Welsh side have been a much harder side to beat.

Cardiff haven’t lost at home since September, with five of their nine home games since then ending in victory. That 2-0 loss to Hull is their only home defeat this season as well.

This leaves Cardiff in a mediocre 9^th position in the Championship. They don’t have much chance of gaining promotion this season and they’re in no threat of relegation, so a lot of their focus will be on putting a good FA Cup run together.

Shrewsbury, on the other hand, do have other matters to concern themselves with. They are in 20^th position in League One and sit just one point above the relegation zone, and the teams above them have a game in hand.

Their result last weekend will have destroyed them as well. They lost 7-1 away to Chesterfield thanks to a ruthless performance from the home side.

This makes it two wins, three defeats, and four draws in their last nine games in all competitions.

They weren’t exactly convincing in their previous FA Cup performances either. They could only beat Conference National side Grimsby Town 1-0 at home thanks to an injury time winner, and in the 1^st Round they needed a late goal against Conference North side Gainsborough Trinity to progress.

Considering Shrewsbury have struggled to win against non-league sides so far in the FA Cup and will be slightly preoccupied with their relegation battle I’m expecting Cardiff to get the better of them. Odds of 8/11 for a home win look really good value for money as well, so that’s what I’m backing along with a 2-0 correct score prediction at 7/1.
