Carlisle vs Oldham Predictions

It may be the season of giving, but in the football world there is no time to be generous for those less fortunate than yourself as sides are in the middle of a bitter battle for league glory. This Boxing Day pits two in form sides against each other in League Two as Carlisle United welcome promotion hopefuls Oldham Athletic to Brunton Park.

Carlisle United are back within four points of the League Two play-off places after successive wins which have seen them score seven goals. It is quite the return to form for the side which prior to those back-to-back victories had failed to win in their previous four outings and scored just two times in those same matches. The Cumbrians know that their main target is to achieve a play-off spot, and despite that sticky spell they know that victory on Boxing Day will represent a major step towards accomplishing that goal.

The Latics continue to hover in the mid-table slots but, buoyed by a recent 4-2 derby victory over Bury, are most definitely not to be taken lightly. A solid run of results through November and the early part of December saw them consolidate their position, albeit with a need to change draws into wins as they ran into some stubborn opposition. Last Saturday saw them host Exeter, and the Latics twice took the lead through the prolific Surridge and an early second half goal from Callum Lang. Ultimately they came out of the game empty handed as Jayden Stockley bagged a hat-trick for the Grecians.

With both of these sides going into this match in a bit of form and with plenty of confidence, neither side is likely to be approaching it with a cautious game plan. When you couple in the fact that both of these sides have scored plenty recently and typically we see plenty of goals scored on Boxing Day, we think that combining both teams to score with there to be over 2.5 goals is the way to go in this fixture.
