      Tip Reasoning

Celtic may have trailed behind Aberdeen after their loss to them at the beginning of the season but Ronny Deila and company have started to put together their usual dominant display in the domestic sense.

But they haven’t been performing in Europe, with two draws and a loss in the Europa League seeing them struggling in the group stages after already being eliminated from the Champions League.

This may indicate that they don’t have what it takes to perform against the higher quality sides, and their 2-1 loss to Aberdeen earlier in the season certainly backs up that claim.

Despite that, they have won nine of their 12 Scottish Premiership games so far this season, with draws against Kilmarnock and Hearts and the previously mentioned loss to Aberdeen.

This leaves Celtic in the familiar position at the summit of the Scottish league system with a four point advantage over 2nd placed Aberdeen.

A win on Saturday could stretch that lead to as many as seven points, or allow Hearts to leapfrog Aberdeen into 2nd place.

This fixture couldn’t have come at a much worse time for Aberdeen. After early season dominance some cracks have started to appear, and their five match winless streak threatens to widen those cracks into chasms.

Aberdeen have lost four of their last five games, with a draw last weekend against Motherwell being their only saving grace since their winning start to the season came to an end in a League Cup defeat to Hibernian.

It’s only their early season good form that is keeping them up in 2nd position in the Scottish Premiership, because their recent performances certainly don’t make them look like potential title challengers.

A few weeks ago I would have put Aberdeen as slight underdogs for this match, but on their current form I think Celtic will get a fairly comfortable victory. Aberdeen have only scored once in their last three away games, and Celtic have kept a clean sheet at Celtic Park in all of their last three league games. This makes odds of 11/8 for Celtic to Win to Nil look very good value.
